Mumbai: A 37-year-old woman from Tamil Nadu who allegedly smuggled 5kg of hydroponic weed worth Rs 5.5 crore was arrested by the Customs at Mumbai International Airport on Monday.
The Air Intelligence Unit of Customs (AIU) arrested Sabina Yasin, a native of Tiruvallur in Tamil Nadu, who arrived from Bangkok. Examination of her baggage resulted in the recovery of six packets containing 5kg of a greenish-coloured substance purported to be hydroponic weed. With the help of a field test kit, it was confirmed the contraband was a narcotic substance.
Sabina was produced before the local court and was sent to judicial custody. Her lawyer, Prabhakar Tripathi, said that his client was trapped. Someone handed over her bag, saying it contained chocolates and toys, and when Customs caught her, it was found the parcel contained drugs.
