Politician and actress Khushboo Sundar recently revealed that she was the first choice for the iconic character of ‘Ganga’ in Raj Kapoor’s classic film ‘Ram Teri Ganga Maili’. He told that he had also done a photoshoot for the film. However, at that time she was only 14 years old, Raj Sahab considered her too young for this mature role and ultimately Mandakini was made a part of the film in her place, who immortalized this character.

Talking on Vicky Lalwani’s YouTube channel, Khushboo said, ‘Raj Kapoor wanted to launch me in ‘Ram Teri Ganga Maili’. We also did a photoshoot for this. Seeing those pictures, Raj Kapoor had said, ‘This is my Ganga.’ The plan was to complete the Gangotri schedule first, but it was snowing at that time, so they decided to shoot in Kolkata first, where they would show the brothel scene. In this part the character is already the mother of a child.

The pairing of Rajeev and Mandakini did wonders on screen.

She further said, but at that time I was not even 14 years old, so Raj ji said, ‘She herself is a child and a child in her hand would not look good.’ They could not even take the film forward and that is why I could not work in the film.
