Stars like Deepika Padukone, Sonu Sood, Boman Irani, Abhishek Bachchan and Vivaan Shah were seen in it. The film was directed by Farah Khan. Very few people would know that it took 9 years to make this film and it was planned to be made with 7 superstars, in which Amitabh Bachchan was also included. But when ‘Happy New Year’ was released, almost its entire star cast was changed.
According to the report published in Hindustan Times, Farah Khan had planned to make ‘Happy New Year’ after the success of ‘Main Hoon Na’ (2004). She wanted to make a film with Amitabh Bachchan, Shahrukh Khan, Akshay Kumar, Juhi Chawla, Manisha Koirala, Ameesha Patel, Priyanka Chopra, Raveena Tandon and Zayed Khan. However, this film could not progress beyond the concept.
The film was shelved
In the year 2006, Farah Khan signed Deepika Padukone for this film. But when ‘Happy New Year’ got shelved, he cast Deepika in ‘Om Shanti Om’. ‘Happy New Year’ remained stuck in production for the next 6 years. During this period, Farah made films like ‘Om Shanti Om’ and ‘Tees Maar Khan’. In 2009, there was a rift between Shahrukh and Farah after a fight with Shirish Kunder. Many people felt that now ‘Happy New Year’ film would not be made. After this, there was a reconciliation between Farah and Shahrukh in the year 2012 and then work on ‘Happy New Year’ started.
8 stars had rejected the film
By October of the same year, the scripting of the film was completed and Shahrukh agreed to the lead role. Earlier, Priyanka Chopra was selected for the lead role, but due to date problems she refused to do the film. After this many other actresses were considered, including Sonakshi Sinha, Asin, Aishwarya Rai Bachchan, Parineeti Chopra and Katrina Kaif. But the matter could not be resolved. Ultimately Deepika Padukone was selected for the role. Even John Abraham and Prithviraj Sukumaran had rejected the film. Eventually, Sonu Sood was cast in that role. Then the shooting of ‘Happy New Year’ started in November 2013.

Let us tell you that Shahrukh Khan’s film ‘Happy New Year’ was released in October 2014 and it made the record of highest opening day collection. According to the report of Bollywood Hungama, the film had a gross collection of Rs 281.94 crore in India. The total worldwide earning was Rs 383.1 crore. It proved to be the third highest grossing film of the year 2014.
