Donald Trump News: Donald Trump has got relief from the court in the hush money case. He was convicted by the court last year in all 34 cases. But Judge Juan Merchan did not give him any punishment.
New York. Judge Juan Merchan, while talking to Donald Trump, who appeared virtually in the court, said that extraordinary is the position of the President, not the person who holds that position. He said, “It is the legal protection afforded to the office of President of the United States that is extraordinary, not the person who holds that office.” Marchan said that when the courtroom doors were closed, this case was no different from any other case going on in the court.
US President-elect Donald Trump was formally sentenced on Friday in a case related to paying (hush money) to a porn star to keep her mouth shut, but the judge neither announced a jail sentence for him nor No fine or sanction imposed. The decision is being seen as a big relief for Trump and it has also cleared the way for him to return to the White House for a second term as President.
Judge Juan M Merchan of a Manhattan court could have sentenced 78-year-old Trump to four years in prison in the ‘hush money’ case. However, he chose a decision that effectively disposed of the case and prevented many constitutional issues from arising. Trump will be the first person to hold the office of President in America who has been convicted in a criminal case and formally sentenced.
What did Judge Marchan say in his order
As soon as newly elected President Donald Trump finished his speech in the court. Sentencing is “one of the most difficult and important decisions” a judge can make, the judge said. He said, “Thank you, Donald Trump.”
Marchan added, “Sentencing is one of the most difficult and important decisions any criminal court judge has to make.” Merchan said he thought Trump should hear the reason for his sentencing, although he had previously made his stance clear.
What was Trump’s expression like?
As Judge Juan Merchan began speaking, President-elect Donald Trump leaned forward. Trump alternated between looking forward at Merchan and looking down and away from the screen.
‘Such a case has never come before the court’
Judge Juan Merchan said, “Never before has this court faced such a unique and remarkable situation. “This is truly an extraordinary case.”
Presidential powers “cannot overturn a jury verdict.”
Judge Juan Merchan said he did not need to reiterate the serious factors he had already made clear in his recent orders. “However, the legal protection given to the position of the Chief Executive is a factor that outweighs all other factors,” he said.
Marchan said of the legal protections for the presidency, “These legal protections do not diminish the seriousness of the crime or in any way justify its commission. “The one power it does not confer is the power to quash the verdict of a jury.”
Judge Merchan also noted that voters ultimately decided to return Trump to the presidency. He said, “Ordinary citizens do not get this legal protection. It is the office of the President which provides this security to the incumbent. “The citizens of this nation recently decided that you should once again have the benefit of these protections.”
Trump will not be sentenced to unconditional release, jail or fine
Judge Juan Merchan has sentenced Donald Trump to unconditional release. Merchan told Trump, “The only legitimate punishment that allows for a judgment or conviction without infringing on the highest office in the land is unconditional release.” The sentence, which was expected, means Trump remains guilty but will not have to face jail, fines or probation for his conviction in the hush money case.
“Sir, I wish you all the best for your second term,” Merchan said in his final remarks to Trump. Trump did not comment at the end of the hearing.
What did Donald Trump say in court
Donald Trump, who was present in the court, referred to his former lawyer Michael Cohen while referring to previous comments. Trump said, “He is allowed to talk as if he is George Washington, but he is not George Washington.” During the sentencing hearing, Donald Trump insisted that he was innocent. He said, “The truth is that I am completely innocent. I didn’t do anything wrong.” Newly elected President Donald Trump also discussed his 2024 election victory in front of the judge. He told the court that he won the presidential election by “millions and millions of votes” and also said that he won all seven swing states.
What is the issue of hush money?
This case is related to Trump paying US $ 1,30,000 to porn star Stormy Daniels through one of his associates during the 2016 presidential election, so that she would not go public about having sex with him. The former President had requested the Supreme Court to stay the sentencing in the case related to paying a porn star to keep her mouth shut. However, the Supreme Court had rejected Trump’s petition, clearing the way for Judge Marchan to announce his sentence on Friday. However, Judge Merchan had indicated that he would not sentence Trump to jail nor impose any fine or ban on him.
