Chhatarpur district of Madhya Pradesh also has a unique way of celebrating Makar Sankranti. Every year on this occasion this special sweet is sold in markets across the district.
Maharajpur resident Ritendra Chaurasia, who is selling in the hot market of Tatam, says that these sweets are made especially for the festival and are sold at this time of the year. On the day of Makar Sankranti festival, people eat the famous sweet Gadhiya Gulla, which is very popular in this area. Currently it is being sold in the market at Rs 60 to 70 per kg. According to the demand the price may be more or less than this.
It is sold in the market within a few days
Gadhiya Gulla is sold in the markets only for about 6 days. After this this sweet disappears from the markets and is rarely seen in sweet shops. The tradition of this sweet has been going on for years in Bundelkhand region.
Also eaten on the day of Basant Panchami
Before the festival of Makar Sankranti, sesame laddus along with gram flour khurmi and other dishes are prepared in many homes. Then on the day of Makar Sankranti, Gadhiya Gulla is eaten after taking bath. During the puja, Gadhiya Gulla along with many other dishes is kept tied in a cloth on this day and then it is opened after the Basant Panchami puja.
