Law faculty exams put off after protest

New Delhi: Delhi University (DU) has decided to postpone the upcoming examinations for law students after protests erupted at the Campus Law Centre (CLC) regarding the exam schedule on Monday.
The new exam dates have not been announced yet.
In response to unrest and the growing student demands, university officials announced that the exam datesheet, initially scheduled for Dec 26, was temporarily blocked. This means the exams will not happen on the previously announced date. DU proctor Rajni Abbi said the university would release a revised datesheet.
“For now, we have only blocked the datesheet. The exams will not take place on Dec 26 as originally scheduled, and we will release a new datesheet soon. We will have to discuss the matter with the vice-chancellor and then keep the examination branch in the loop as they will have to make arrangements. The new dates are likely to be announced in 2-3 days.”
As of now, DU officials have not specified a timeline for when the revised schedule will be released.
Hundreds of law students gathered at the CLC on Monday, demanding postponement of the exams. The students raised several issues, including an incomplete syllabus, frequent mid-course faculty changes, delayed allotments and a sudden updating of the syllabus.
The students said they did not get sufficient time to study because of the disruptions to the academic schedule.
The protest continued for over eight hours.
The situation escalated when police were called in. According to reports, more than 60 police officers, along with paramilitary forces, were deployed to manage the protest, which turned into a scuffle. Some students said force was used to break up the demonstration. Police have denied the allegation.
