PUDUCHERRY: A team of surgeons in Jawaharlal Institute of Postgraduate Medical Education and Research (Jipmer) in Puducherry removed a tumour weighing 5kg from the back of a woman after a six-hour complex surgery.
The 38-year-old woman from Jharkhand had struggled with a massive and debilitating tumour on her back for several years, said to a release from the institute.
She approached the institute. A team of skilled plastic surgeons in Jipmer, led by assistant professor (plastic surgery) Dr Padmalakshmi Bharathi Mohan, meticulously planned and executed the complex surgical procedure, which lasted six hours, and removed the tumour.
The surgical team included senior residents (plastic surgery) Dr Amrutha and Dr Kanav Gupta, assistant professor (anaesthesiology) Dr Jayanth and nurse Sunitha.
“The massive tumour severely compromised the patient’s quality of life, restricted her mobility and caused excruciating shoulder pain as it weighed heavily on her back. Simple daily activities like lying down or performing household chores became challenging for her. Post-surgery, the patient made a remarkable recovery and is now able to lie down comfortably, a simple pleasure that was not possible for years,” said the release.
