West Bengal special mithai: A 200 year old fair is organized in Swata village of East Burdwan, where a unique festival of purchasing sweets is seen. This fair attracts thousands of people every year.

Every year a unique fair is organized in Swata village of Aushgram block of East Burdwan district, which people also call ‘Bomman Saheb’s Fair’. This fair is more than 200 years old and sees a celebration of the purchase of sweets. According to the fair committee, this fair starts on the day of Paush Sankranti and continues for six days. During this time thousands of people come to Peer Baba’s place to have darshan as well as to buy sweets.

The most special thing about this fair is that sweets worth about Rs 25 lakh are sold here. Fair Committee Secretary Abdul Aleem said that sweet traders are very happy to come to this fair because the sale of sweets is increasing every year. People buy sweets by filling buckets, utensils and big earthen pots.
Everyone returns after buying sweets
It is a tradition that no person returns empty handed from this fair. Sweet lovers come here to enjoy different types of sweets. Rasgulla, Bada Langcha, and other traditional sweets are available at every shop. Customers buy sweets in pieces and take them home for family and friends.
Every year crowd gathers for sweets
Sheikh Moiuddin, a customer who visited the fair, said, “I come to this fair every year to buy sweets. This time I have bought sweets worth Rs 1500 and intend to buy more.” Sweet seller Ratan Das said that earlier sweets were sold by the kilogram, but now they are sold in pieces.
Fair runs for six days, sweets have special attraction
This fair lasts for six days and the first four days are the most crowded. People come with utensils, pots and buckets to buy sweets. The fair is famous not only for sweets but also for preserving rural traditions and cultural heritage.
