‘I was ill-mannered…’, Mika Singh himself admitted, had misbehaved with Javed Akhtar, had pulled the lyricist’s ear

New Delhi. Singer Mika Singh remains in the headlines for his controversies along with his songs. Recently he recalled the hit song ‘Sawan Mein Lag Gayi Aag’ and the story of Javed Akhtar being unknowingly associated with it. Mika said that he is a big fan of the famous writer and he found that if he had told people that Javed had written the lyrics of the song, he would have got more respect. He told how he used to pretend that AR Rahman had helped in the music, whereas the truth was that he himself had written and composed the music.

In an interview with ‘The Lallantop’, Mika recalled this incident. He was asked whether he ever told Javed Akhtar and Rehman about this. He said, ‘I love Javed Saheb very much. I have met him a few times in some shows. I have always been a little rude… He didn’t pay attention to me. This was after the release of ‘Ganpat’. We were at an awards function and I had to make a grand entry. I thought that Javed Sahab would definitely notice me, but he did not.

Mika said that after some time, he again tried to attract Javed Sahab’s attention. But this time also he failed. Singer told, ‘Then I jumped on the table and pulled his ear. His head turned back and I touched his feet and said that I was his big fan. He said, ‘Go’.

Explaining the lies spread about Javed Akhtar, Mika said, ‘When I made the song, I used to ask everyone whether they liked it or not. They would ask me who wrote it, and I knew that if I said I did, they wouldn’t take the song seriously. So, I would tell people that Javed Akhtar has helped in writing it and AR Rahman has helped in the music.
