HC upholds ‘life’ for man for rape of own daughter

Mumbai: The Bombay High Court upheld the conviction and life sentence of a father for the sexual assault and rape of his own two-and-a-half-year-old daughter, observing that despite the enactment of the special law to prevent such abuse of children, the tiny tot fell “prey to a loathsome…abhorrent act”.
Justices Bharat Dangre and Manjusha Deshpande noted that “the little girl, for years after the incident, would wonder if it was her fault that she was born or that she was begotten by such a man, who ravished her, though he was expected to protect her and nurture her, so that she blossoms into a woman.”
The High Court also considered the deposition by his wife, who said she was pregnant when he had hit her and then assaulted their child too.
The medical evidence established sexual assaults, and experts also deposed from the symptoms they noticed on examining the victim girl.
