New Delhi: Nowadays, there is a lot of pressure on children from schools. Firstly, their bag is heavy. Secondly, they have additional pressure of homework. In such situations, children often remain under stress. But now the homework burden of children will be less. Yes, a big step was taken in America regarding this. In fact, in the US state of California on Wednesday, a new law was implemented to reduce the mental stress of homework on students. The purpose of this law is to reduce the homework burden of students.
In California, this law has become effective from January 1, 2025. It was approved by Governor Gavin Newsom in September 2024. The main objective of this law is to promote the education and welfare of students and ensure consistency and clarity in homework. This bill was introduced by California Provincial Assembly member Pilar Schiavo. She believed that students, like her daughter Sophia Johnson, often felt stressed because of heavy homework.
The purpose of this law is to improve educational equity and the effectiveness of homework. However, this law does not ban homework. Instead, it gives responsibility to local educational agencies (LEAs) to create and regularly update homework policies for each grade level. For this, the California Department of Education will issue guidelines by January 1, 2026, so that school districts can get a centralized resource.
However, some concerns regarding this have also started increasing in America. Some teachers and parents are concerned that reducing homework requirements could affect academic standards. However, its supporters say that the purpose of this law is not to eliminate homework completely, but to make it more helpful and in accordance with the well-being of the students.
