Girl’s testimony helps get life term for grandmother

Thane: The testimony of a 10-year-old girl played a crucial role in convicting her 76-year-old grandmother, who burnt her 30-year-old mother to death in 2018. The Thane sessions court sentenced the grandmother to life imprisonment in the case.
Jamnaben Mangaldas Mange was convicted of murder based largely on the testimony of her granddaughter, who witnessed the horrific incident in the Wagle estate area, and the dying declaration of the victim. The court also imposed a fine of Rs 50,000, which will be paid as compensation to the child witness.
The victim’s husband, Ashok Mangaldas Mange, 40, who was also charged in the case, was acquitted after being given the benefit of the doubt.
