Gang of six steal 12.2L cash from woman, held

Thane: The Anti Extortion Cell of the Crime Branch arrested six persons, including a woman, and detained a minor on charges of alleged dacoity against a 45-year-old woman from Ulhasnagar who was travelling to Dubai.
During interrogation, police recovered the entire stolen amount of Rs 12.29 lakh, and seized the vehicles used in the crime, a motorbike, a country-made Katta (firearm), live cartridges, and mobile phones.
The police said that on Dec 5 at 11:30pm, the victim was travelling in a taxi towards the airport when the accused gang intercepted her on the Mumbai-Nashik highway. The suspects falsely claimed to be police and customs officials and forced the taxi driver to stop. They forcibly opened the cab door, and stole two bags containing 50,000 Saudi Riyals equivalent to Rs 11.29 lakh as well as Rs 1 lakh in Indian currency, the police said. An FIR was registered under sections 310(2) (Dacoity), 309(6) (Robbery), 3(5) (Common Intention), and 49 of the BNS. Nishikant Karlikar
