Why 50+ Muslim countries gathered in Saudi
According to a report by Saudi Press Agency, the emergency conference in Riyadh was called on the initiative of Saudi Arabia. In which leaders from Iran, Iraq, Jordan, Türkiye, Egypt, Palestine and all Arab-Islamic countries participated. The purpose of this conference was to discuss the issues of Iran, Lebanon, Gaza and Palestine and decide the future strategy. According to a BBC report, this conference of Islamic countries was called as a strategy just after the victory of Donald Trump. So that pressure can be put on Israel to stop its actions especially in Lebanon and Gaza.
Is it an attempt to put pressure on Trump?
Donald Trump is considered close to Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu. He has said on many occasions that if he had been in power, the war would not have started. In such a situation, it is believed that Islamic countries want to put moral pressure on Trump so that he stops Israel’s actions. There is one more thing to be noted here. The conference was initiated and led by Saudi Arabia, which is considered close to America. So that there is more pressure on Trump.
What happened in the conference?
In this conference, for the first time, Islamic countries raised their voice in one voice against Israel’s actions in Lebanon, Gaza and Palestine. An appeal has been made to immediately stop Israeli attacks. Saudi Arabia’s Prince Mohammed bin Salman bluntly said that Saudi Arabia condemns the genocide of Palestinians by Israel and it should be stopped immediately. Prince Salman said that Palestine is an independent country and it should get the status of independent country. Israel should immediately withdraw its troops from the West Bank and Gaza and the international community should put pressure on Israel for this. The Saudi Crown Prince was clearly pointing towards America.
Referring to Iran, the Saudi Crown Prince said that the international community should respect its sovereignty and put pressure on Israel for the same. Prince Salman said that Saudi completely rejects Israel’s attempt to attack Iran in any way.
At the conference, Egyptian President Abdel Fattah al-Sisi said that we condemn the killing of Gaza Strip Palestinians. Egypt will always oppose the elimination, displacement or genocide of Palestinians in Gaza. He said that Egypt stands shoulder to shoulder with the people of Lebanon and will always help them.
The issue of Al-Aqsa Mosque also came up
In this conference of Islamic countries, the issue of Al-Aqsa Masjid of Jerusalem was also raised. Muslim leaders alleged that Israel was repeatedly violating the sanctity of the Al Aqsa Mosque. Saudi Crown Prince said that Israel is repeatedly interfering in the legitimate rights of Palestine and trying to eliminate them, which is not right in any way. Al-Aqsa Mosque is considered one of the holiest sites in Islam. There has been a dispute regarding this between Israel and Palestine for decades.
What is the 33-point agenda of the conference?
In the Riyadh conference, Islamic countries have also presented a 33-point draft to solve the Israel-Gaza problem and other issues. This draft states-
1. Support for Palestine has been expressed in the 33-point draft
2. The draft condemns violations of the sovereignty of Lebanon, Iran, Iraq and Syria.
3. Israel has appealed to the international community to end the Gaza conflict.
4. An appeal has been made to implement UN resolutions and International Court decisions in Palestine.
5. There has been a demand to lift the ban from the United Nations Relief and Works for Palestine (UNRWA), the UN agency that works for the Palestinians.
