New Delhi. Who would have thought that there would be Hindi vs South cinema on the last day of the year 2024? Who would have imagined that this would be the year when the bubble of ‘Indian cinema’ would burst? A year when Telugu film ‘Pushpa 2: The Rule’ became the highest grossing Hindi film in India. The first glimpse of Hindi versus South cinema was seen at the Galatta Plus Roundtable, when Telugu producer Naga Vamsi told Boney Kapoor, ‘It is time that Hindi cinema came out of ‘Bandra and Juhu’ and how ‘we (Telugu cinema) ) has changed the perspective of watching Hindi cinema. This statement and his attitude during the conversation, which also included filmmakers Archana Kalpathy, Siddharth, Don Palthara and Chandini Sasha, did not go down well with many people. Film producer Sanjay Gupta was also included among them.
Sanjay Gupta, director of the film ‘Kaante’ expressed his displeasure against Naga Vamsi on social media. He wrote on X, ‘Who is this rude person, who is sitting next to a senior producer like Boney G and insulting him with his fake arrogance? Watch his body language and discusting attitude. He will not, nor can he, become the father of Bollywood by giving 4 or 5 hits.

Questions raised on Naga Vamsi’s body language
Sanjay Gupta also questioned Naga Vamsi’s body language and asked whether he would have done the same in front of senior Telugu producers like Allu Aravind and Suresh Babu?
‘Does he have the courage to tell Allu Arvind…’
He further wrote- ‘Does he have the courage to sit in front of senior producers like Allu Arvind sir or Suresh Babu sir and talk like this and point fingers at them? Learn respect before success. He also praised the producers of South Indian cinema who are always a symbol of ‘humility and discipline’. ‘We first learned humility and discipline while working with South Indian filmmakers. Indecent display of arrogance can never be expected from them.

How did the debate start?
At the roundtable, Boney Kapoor’s biggest objection was to Naga Vamsi’s point that Hindi cinema has not done much in recent times and even the biggest Hindi successes had a strong South connection. However, Boney tried to point out that Hindi cinema still has a strong history and proven track record. At the same time, Vamsi tried to prove that times are changing. In fact, he even said that the filmmakers of Hindi cinema would be losing sleep after the blockbuster success of ‘Pushpa 2’, especially on the first Sunday when it had earned more than Rs 80 crore.
