New Delhi: Intensifying pressure on BJP regarding Union home minister Amit Shah’s remarks on BR Ambedkar in Parliament on Tuesday, Delhi Congress staged a demonstration on Thursday, demanding his apology and resignation.
Leading the protest, Delhi Congress chief Devender Yadav accused Shah of insulting Ambedkar and devaluing the Constitution, democracy and the marginalised sections of the society.
Hitting back, Delhi BJP president Virendra Sachdeva said Congress functionaries and the Gandhi family should apologise for the “disrespect shown to Ambedkar during his lifetime and even after his death”.
Congress workers shouted slogans against Shah, stating that the alleged insult of Ambedkar would not be tolerated by the people of India. “Congress wants the country to be governed by the Constitution while Shah and his allies aim to run the country according to the Manusmriti. Shah should apologise for his insulting comments,” Yadav demanded.
BJP’s SC and ST wing staged protests at four major locations, demanding an apology from Congress for their alleged insult to Ambedkar. “Led by MP Yogendra Chandolia, hundreds of party workers from reserved constituencies of Karol Bagh and Patel Nagar blocked the road at the Jantar Mantar crossing on Parliament Street and protested against Congress,” Sachdeva said.
Chandolia alleged that Congress conspired against Ambedkar and Sardar Patel throughout their lives. “The nation now demands an apology from Congress for plotting electoral defeats against Ambedkar twice and conferring a Padma award to those who opposed him,” he claimed.
