New Delhi: Giving final shape to their manifesto for Delhi assembly polls, senior BJP functionaries on Saturday held meetings with the trading community across 17 major markets and commercial areas in the capital.
According to a statement, BJP MPs, MLAs, and senior office-bearers discussed various issues plaguing market and commercial areas of the city, apart from schemes and policies affecting businessmen and shopkeepers. The suggestions received from traders would be accommodated in the party manifesto.
Manifesto committee convener Ramvir Singh Bidhuri said the public consultation campaign would conclude with a meeting involving prominent RWAs and certain civic organisations on Dec 22. The party will also set up suggestion vans in large numbers across all markets on Dec 22 and will call for collective public participation.
BJP said it received a suggestion document from New Delhi Traders Association outlining the problems faced by the businessmen in Delhi’s most prominent market of Connaught Place. Similar suggestion documents were also submitted by traders at V3S Mall in east Delhi’s Nirman Vihar. Party functionaries interacted with traders of Dwarka Sector 11 market, Karol Bagh’s Bikanervala Chowk, Green Park main market, Priya Shopping Complex in Vasant Vihar, and office employees at ITO and Mandi House areas.
Delhi BJP president Virendra Sachdeva said AAP govt promised an international trade fair in Delhi on the lines of Dubai Fest, but it only remained a dream. “BJP will deliver this promise,” Sachdeva said, accusing AAP govt of “providing only lies in the name of development”. He highlighted the success of the ‘ease of doing business’ initiative introduced by PM Narendra Modi in Gujarat and emphasised the need for its implementation in Delhi.
Sachdeva claimed that no industrial development took place in Delhi after the BJP regime in 1993-98. “We will not only incorporate citizens’ suggestions into our manifesto but would also ensure their execution upon forming the govt. We aim to make Delhi a model city that residents can take pride in,” Sachdeva said.
Chandni Chowk MP Praveen Khandelwal alleged AAP govt promised to beautify the city’s market but no development took place. “There are no arrangements for pink toilets for women. Taxes are being imposed even on families of traders who died during Covid,” he claimed. “Over the last 10 years, no new schools or roads have been built,” he added. MP Bansuri Swaraj said BJP would draft a manifesto that reflects the aspirations of Delhiites.
