Bansuri Swaraj gets notice over defamation complaint by Satyendar Jain

New Delhi: A Delhi court on Monday issued a notice to BJP MP Bansuri Swaraj in connection with a criminal defamation complaint filed by former Delhi minister Satyendar Jain against her.
The court of additional chief judicial magistrate first class Neha Mittal, taking cognisance of the complaint, asked her to appear before it on Dec 20.
Jain, in his complaint, alleged that Swaraj made derogatory statements to tarnish his image during a TV interview on Oct 5, 2023. He said that Swaraj alleged that Rs 3 crore in cash, along with 1.8 kg of gold and 133 gold coins, was found at his house. The complaint further stated that Swaraj called him corrupt and fake.
Jain alleged that Swaraj made the remarks to defame him and to gain undue political advantage. He also claimed that the remarks caused significant harm to his personal and professional reputation, impacting his role as a public representative and his standing within his family and society.
The former Delhi minister also alleged that the accused tarnished his reputation, and the smear campaign affected him deeply in various roles—as a husband, father, brother, friend, and member of society—besides scarring his previously unblemished political image. He further claimed that the damage caused by the baseless allegations was immeasurable.
