New Delhi: Delhi BJP president Virendra Sachdeva on Wednesday accused AAP govt of facilitating a scam involving the issuance of fake Scheduled Castes (SC) certificates and Aadhaar cards to unauthorised persons, saying it pointed to a large-scale fraud with potential societal and security implications. AAP refuted the allegations, saying the LG office and central govt are accountable for any corrupt practices in the offices issuing the documents.
Sachdeva said BJP had received reports of easy availability of the fake documents in the city, particularly from west Delhi. An internal team of lawyers was set up to investigate the claims, he added. “Machines to create Aadhaar cards have been set up in MLAs’ offices in west Delhi. Our investigation revealed most of the fake certificate holders used them to secure jobs, educational opportunities and other benefits, which is inconceivable without political protection,” he claimed. “The fake documents were used to issue SC certificates to individuals who are not Dalits,” alleged Sachdeva.
He said this deprived genuine Dalits of their rightful access to reservations, jobs and benefits meant for marginalised communities. “This is not just misconduct; it is a direct attack on the rights of Dalits,” said Sachdeva, adding, “We demand immediate intervention by LG and a CBI probe to uncover the extent of the fraud. This is a threat to national security. These fraudulent activities could be aiding intrusion and demographic manipulation.”
Hitting back, AAP said the caste certificates were produced at the SDM offices, which are under the revenue department. “It is the LG who decides who will be the SDM, ADM or DM. There is no consultation at all with the elected govt; they don’t even send the file on appointment or posting. Therefore, it is LG who has the power to investigate any of the corrupt practices,” the party stated.
“All these questions being asked from the elected govt should be asked from LG and BJP-led central govt, who are controlling the transfer postings of these officers and are responsible for vigilance enquiries against any of the corrupt practices,” said the party. AAP said it was the central govt or Raj Niwas which should answer what the mechanism was through which vigilance in these offices was conducted and surprise checks done. “What is the mechanism through which anybody can file a complaint against such corrupt practices? Why has no action been taken against them if this practice continued for so many years?” asked AAP.
