New Delhi: Golfers can now test their skills at the country’s longest driving range of 375 yards at the new golf course in Dwarka, which was inaugurated by lieutenant governor VK Saxena on Wednesday. Located in Sector 24, the 18-hole course spans 7,377 yards with expansive greens across 158 acres of land and was developed at a cost of Rs 250 crore.
The facilities include a clubhouse, currently under construction, a restaurant, snack kiosks, tapas corners and a cafeteria, along with spaces for meetings and events such as conferences and multi-purpose halls. Other features available are a tech studio, lecture hall, pro-shop, equipment fitment studio and swimming pool and wellness facilities, including sauna and steam rooms.
The golf course has a state-of-the-art computerised automatic irrigation system for intelligent use of water, underground drainage systems, and stormwater recharge wells for the conservation of water.
“In 2019, the Prime Minister launched the Fit India movement, which has helped take sports to every nook and corner of the country,” said LG. “The brilliant performance of our sportspersons in international events reflects the success of the movement. The world-class sports infrastructure at Dwarka is going to provide a boost to professional golf training for budding golfers.” A DDA official added, “We have also established a golf academy to serve as a centre of excellence for beginners.”
The golf course will operate as a pay-and-play facility while also offering tenure playing rights for three- and five-year periods. On Dec 7, DDA started offering limited tenure playing rights at the course. Around 2,000 were given such rights in different categories, such as senior govt officials, golf handicap certificate holders, general applicants, corporates and PSUs and embassies. The applications ended on Dec 16.
The entry fee and monthly subscription payable exclusive of GST for the 3- and 5-year tenure rights in govt and non-govt categories ranged from Rs 3 to Rs 9 lakh, with a monthly subscription of Rs 1,500-2,200. On Wednesday, Saxena also distributed the membership certificate to some members.
At present, DDA owns 17 sports complexes, three mini sports complexes, two public golf courses, 17 swimming pools and 40 multigyms. Besides, Centres of Excellence are being developed in sports like wrestling, weightlifting, boxing, judo, kabaddi, tennis, shooting, football and hockey in various sectors of Dwarka and a Centre of Excellence in aquatics in Sector 33 Rohini. The Centres of Excellence in Dwarka are likely to be completed soon, said officials.
