Chennai: A deputy jailer at Puzhal Central jail was injured after ‘Police’ S Fakruddin, a fringe outfit member, assaulted him. According to police, S Syed Jasith, the deputy jailer, was standing near the main gate of the prison when Fakruddin, who was being escorted back to the jail after appearing in court in a case, attacked Syed, leaving him with minor injuries.
Based on a complaint, a police case was registered against Fakruddin. A few days ago, the Puzhal police had registered a case against Fakruddin for threatening a prison official. The inmate, lodged in the high-security block, was named as an accused in the murder cases of Vellaiappan of the Hindu Front, Auditor Ramesh, and others.
Jail authorities have started an investigation.
