New Delhi: Several schools in the city received bomb threats through emails early on Tuesday, making it the fifth such incident in the past 10 days. The sender demanded “100 thousand USD” and threatened that bombs would detonate “within 72 hours” if his demands were not met. All threats were found to be hoax, said police.
The schools include Crescent Public School in Saraswati Vihar, Indian Public School in south Delhi, Ambience Public School in Safdarjung Enclave, and Dilshad Public School in Dilshad Garden, prompting immediate evacuation and security measures.
“We received a call regarding a threat at Crescent Public School, and teams were sent immediately,” said a Delhi Fire Service official. Police’s bomb detection teams and dog squads also searched the premises, but nothing suspicious was found.
This latest threat follows Monday’s incident when approximately 20 schools received similar emails. A senior police officer said, “We have registered an FIR and our cyber teams are working to trace the origin of these threats. We are taking each threat seriously.”
The series of threats began on Dec 9 with 44 schools, followed by 30 schools on Dec 13, and eight on Dec 14.
As the GRAP-IV is in force across Delhi-NCR, only classes X and XII students are required to come to school. “We are coordinating closely with educational institutions to ensure students’ safety,” said an officer. “Parents are understandably concerned, but we want to assure them that all necessary security measures are in place,” he added.
