New Delhi: Delhi Development Authority (DDA) has set March 31 as the new deadline for completing the Bharat Vandana Park project in Dwarka’s Sector 20.
According to the authority, the construction of entry plazas, a restaurant, kiosks and other features is complete. The pylons and skywalk structures are 85% finished, DDA said.
“We have completed both the civil and electrical work of the four gate plazas, the virtual game building, restaurant and kiosk, and 20 toilet blocks. The construction of the pylons and the skywalk is progressing steadily. The horticulture and landscape work are expected to be over this month, while the pathway and road work is in the final stage,” a DDA official said.
The 200-acre facility will showcase India’s cultural heritage through 10 areas, which have been laid out like lotus petals. Waterbodies cover 25% of the space, including two restored features. The project belongs to Delhi Development Authority (DDA), although its execution is being done by National Buildings Construction Corporation (NBCC).
As of now, work is in progress at the sections called Fun Park and Mini India, alongside the pylon installation.
“There will be nine pylons, each 44 metres in height, which will be another highlight of this place and connect a 1.2-km skywalk of 18 metres in height for an aerial view. The unique feature will surely attract visitors,” the official said.
“Since taking charge, lieutenant governor VK Saxena has regularly taken stock of the work at Bharat Vandana Park by coming for onsite inspections and by holding review meetings,” the official added.
The ambitious project will depict India’s rich cultural, linguistic and geographical diversity. The project plan says the park will have recreation facilities such as a congregation zone (a large green field) for gatherings or picnics, a cultural zone, Pushpkriti Vatika, an eco-zone or forest, a meditation zone, the Fun Park with animatronics, an open gym, a kids’ play area, an adventure zone with a zip line and tree surfing trails, and a lake-view restaurant. A section will be developed as Mini India with 36 scaled monuments, stalls of local cuisines and souvenir shops.
Other highlights include a waterbody with a paddle boat ride, a section called the Wall of India, a deck restaurant, and other food and beverage points.
“DDA will arrange for the supply of 90,000 cubic metres of water through STP to fill the main waterbody once and then 1,000 cubic metres of treated water supply every day to maintain all the waterbodies. We will also channel rainwater and construct six storage tanks, each with a capacity of 5,000 cubic metres, to meet the requirement. Besides Vandana Sarovar, located in the middle of the complex, the water will be used for filling the site around a floating island and the Mini India zone,” an official had said earlier.
There will be two open-air theatres, 500 KW solar panels, lighting and electric poles, and a 1.2 km boating track, among others.
