Mumbai: A special court on Monday directed the police to produce five of the accused in the Oct 12 murder of former minister and NCP neta Baba Siddique before it on Tuesday.
Additionally, the lawyer for two accused, Gurmel Singh and Harishkumar Kashyap, moved a plea seeking permission to retract confessions allegedly recorded by the investigating agency. The court also received the confession statements of four other accused in sealed envelopes.
Siddique was shot dead by three gunmen outside his MLA son Zeeshan Siddique’s office in Bandra (East) on Oct 12. So far, 26 accused, including three shooters, have been arrested. Three accused—Shubham Rameshwar Lonkar, Zeeshan Mohammad Akhtar and Anmol Bishnoi—are wanted. The motive is still unclear. Last month, police invoked sections of the stringent law, Maharashtra Control of Organised Crime Act (MCOCA). tnn
