New Delhi: Two arms suppliers were arrested for allegedly facilitating the operations of the Tillu Tajpuria and Chhenu Pahalwan gangs by providing them with weapons.
The accused were identified as Ajay alias Totla, who was arrested from the Delhi-Noida border, and Shamim, who was nabbed in Aligarh, Uttar Pradesh.
Deputy commissioner of police (crime) Sanjay Sain said that on Dec 11, they received a tipoff that Ajay, who supplied firearms to Vinay Pandit, a member of the Tajpuria gang and is also currently associated with the Pahalwan gang, would come near the Delhi-Noida border.
A team under inspector Vijay Pal Dahiya, supervised by ACP Naresh Solanki, laid a trap on Dec 12, and Ajay was caught near the Delhi-Noida border while riding a motorcycle stolen from Jaitpur. Ajay told police that he had kept a pistol and ammunition at his home in Sangam Vihar, leading to the recovery of the weapon and three live cartridges. Ajay was involved in 10 criminal cases, including arms possession and auto thefts.
Meanwhile, another raid was conducted in Aligarh, resulting in the arrest of Shamim. Shamim claimed that he directly supplied arms to Ajay, who then sold them to Pandit for the Pahalwan gang. Based on Shamim’s information, police seized 10 more guns, including seven countrymade pistols.
Shamim also told the cops that the firearms were being custom-made in rural villages in response to the demand. “This operation has uncovered a deep-rooted connection between local arms manufacturers, suppliers and powerful criminal groups, including the Tajpuria and Pahalwan gangs, responsible for several violent incidents in the region,” said an officer.
