COIMBATORE: S A Basha, who was the mastermind of the Feb 14,1998 Coimbatore serial blasts, died of age-related health issues on Monday evening. He was 84.
Basha is the founder of Al-Umma, a banned terrorist outfit.
Basha was undergoing treatment in PSG Hospitals. His son Siddiq Ali said his father died at 6.20pm.
Basha and 16 others from the Al-Umma had been serving life imprisonment in connection with the Coimbatore serial blast since February 1998. He obtained parole from the Madras high court a few months ago.
