Malayalam director Vasudevan Nair passes away, breathed his last at the age of 91, was honored with Jnanpith and Padma Bhushan

New Delhi. Jnanpith Award-winning great writer M.T. Vasudevan Nair died at the age of 91. Apart from literature, he was also a well-known face of Malayalam cinema. The actor and veteran writer was admitted to a private hospital in Koricode, Kerala. Nair, fondly known as MT, has left an unforgettable legacy in the world of literature and cinema.

The author was in the hospital for the last 11 days. He had suffered a heart attack after which he was admitted in the hospital. He was removed from ventilator support on Tuesday night, but on Wednesday his condition started deteriorating and by night the actor died.

The journey was full of difficulties
Born on July 15, 1933 in Cuddalore, Ponnani taluk, MT’s early life was full of difficulties. These challenges of life had a deep impact on his writing. After obtaining a degree in Chemistry from Victoria College, Palakkad in 1953, he worked as a teacher for some time. In 1957, he started his career as a writer as a sub-editor in ‘Mathrubhoomi’.

Have won National Award
M.T. Vasudevan Nair was fond of writing since childhood. He started writing in college with ‘Raktam Puranda Mantharikal’. In the world of cinema, MT started story writing with the Malayalam film ‘Murappennu’ and then he stepped into film direction. He made films like ‘Nirmalyam’, which received the National Award in the Best Feature Film category. After this he directed films like ‘Bandhanam’ and ‘Kadav’.
