Op Prahaar: Outer crackdown leads to 149 arrests, seizures

New Delhi: The Outer district police successfully completed a week-long Operation Prahaar, which led to the arrest of 149 individuals and the registration of 120 cases. The crackdown targeted organised crime syndicates involved in narcotics, illegal firearms, gambling and bootlegging. Police seized 81.4 kg of narcotics, 10 country-made pistols, 13 knives and 11 live cartridges during the operation. Police teams also recovered lakhs of rupees allegedly involved in gambling and seized 10,996 quarter bottles of illicit liquor.
Spearheaded by Sachin Sharma, DCP (Outer), the operation, which began seven days ago, was meticulously planned and employed a combination of foot and vehicle patrols, picket checks and strategic raids, supported by local informants and advanced surveillance. The targeted approach dismantled criminal networks operating in the Outer district and yielded substantial recoveries.
The operation made a significant dent in the drug trade, with 17 cases registered under the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances Act. Eighteen individuals, including key suppliers, were arrested in connection with the drug busts. The ongoing anti-drug campaign aligns with the central govt’s Nasha Mukt Bharat Abhiyan initiative.
A police officer said, “Our team uncovered a complex narcotics trafficking network after intercepting a large shipment from a courier company. The operation revealed that the drugs, primarily sourced from Odisha and Bihar, were being shipped to suppliers across the district. Upon arrival, these suppliers would repackage the drugs in smaller quantities, which were then handed off to local distributors. These distributors, in turn, passed the drugs to street-level peddlers, who sold them to end users.”
Police seized a significant haul of narcotics, including ganja, MDMA and smack, and made multiple arrests. Cops are now working to trace the entire supply chain, from the origin in Bihar and Odisha to the local peddlers, in an effort to dismantle the entire network.
To curb the menace of illegal firearms, Operation Prahaar led to the registration of 22 cases under the Arms Act. The cops arrested 24 individuals involved in the illicit distribution of firearms and confiscated 10 country-made pistols, 13 knives, and ammunition.
The crackdown also targeted gambling rings and bootlegging operations. A total of 25 cases were filed under the Delhi Public Gambling Act, resulting in 71 arrests. Gambling cash, satta slips and playing cards were seized. Additionally, 56 cases were registered under the Delhi Excise Act, leading to the arrest of bootleggers and suppliers of illicit liquor.
