New Delhi: Aam Aadmi Party on Saturday said that as part of the ongoing “Revdi Par Charcha” campaign, its workers were engaging with residents across Delhi to discuss the transformation of public transport in the city. “The workers are highlighting the expansion of the metro network from 200 km to 450 km, the construction of 10,000 km of roads, and the addition of 38 flyovers in the past 10 years,” claimed the party.
With an eye on the Delhi Assembly elections, AAP chief Arvind Kejriwal last month launched the campaign, with revdis being referred to as the freebies offered by govt in the form of free electricity, water and other benefits. He said that Delhi govt was providing Delhiites with six ‘revdis’, which are free 24×7 electricity, water, quality education, mohalla clinics and govt hospitals, free bus travel for women and free pilgrimage for the elderly. He said that the seventh revdi would be Rs 1,000 monthly into every woman’s account as part of the Mahila Samman scheme.
The party said that govt had undertaken significant initiatives to improve Delhi’s infrastructure, underscoring its commitment to transforming the city into a modern, sustainable and efficient city. “AAP workers are conducting approximately 2,000 daily meetings across the city to highlight these developments as part of the campaign,” said a senior party functionary.
“During these discussions, AAP workers note that prior to their governance, Delhi had a mere 200 km of metro lines. Over the past nine years, AAP govt expanded the metro network to 450 km, connecting numerous new areas. This expansion significantly enhanced convenience for millions of commuters,” the party added.
The functionary further said that AAP representatives were informing participants about the large-scale initiatives taken by govt, which resulted in the construction of 10,000 km of new roads over the past nine years. These efforts connected various regions and reduced travel time for residents. To address traffic congestion, govt also constructed numerous flyovers, he added.
“Before AAP govt, only 62 flyovers were built in the 65 years since Independence. In contrast, the AAP administration constructed 38 new flyovers in just nine years,” said the party.
Further, the discussions bring attention to the significant upgrades in Delhi’s bus services. “Before AAP govt came to power, the city faced a severe shortage of buses. Many buses were outdated and required replacement. AAP govt prioritised these challenges, expanding the bus fleet and introducing modern buses to replace aging vehicles,” said the functionary.
“To combat pollution, govt also introduced electric buses. Today, Delhi’s bus fleet has grown to 7,700,” said another party functionary.
