Mumbai: A week after a 25-year-old model lost her life in a hit-and-run at Bandra West, police traced the accused to Bihar and took him into custody.
On Dec 5, the victim, Shivani Singh, who lived in Malad, was seated pillion on her friend’s motorcycle while the duo was commuting on Dr Babasaheb Ambedkar Road at Bandra West. Police said a water tanker had a head-on collision with the motorcycle around 8pm.
Singh was thrown off the two-wheeler owing to the impact and was run over by the tanker. Her friend, who was riding the motorcycle and wore a helmet, suffered a leg fracture. Singh suffered serious injuries and was rushed to the Bhabha Hospital by bystanders. She was pronounced dead at the hospital. Her friend was also taken to the hospital.
The tanker driver, Princhuarya Chaudhary (22) abandoned his vehicle at the crash location and fled the site. A police team tracked down his house in Khar Danda and paid a visit. The police personnel learnt that he had run away to his hometown in Nalanda district, Bihar.
A police team went to Nalanda and traced him. Chaudhary was arrested on Wednesday and brought to Mumbai the following day. He will be produced before a magistrate court on Friday.
