Chennai: It doesn’t matter whether opponents contest separately to split the votes or collectively as an alliance as the DMK front will sweep the 2026 assembly election, chief minister M K Stalin has said. “Our victory will not be an ordinary one, but istoric,” he said at the party’s executive committee meeting on Sunday.
However, he cautioned the functionaries not to be complacent and to work harder, intensifying their online campaign. “Our goal should be to form govt for the seventh time by winning more than 200 seats,” Stalin said, adding that he was not speaking out of overconfidence that there were no enemies for DMK. “Rather, I am saying this out of the confidence that DMK cadres would defeat the strategies of our enemies.”
He said DMK has seen several enemies from 1957 to 2024, some of them as tall as Himalayas. “Our enemies kept changing. But our movement stayed here strong,” he said. The reason, Stalin said, was because DMK always stood by the people.
The DMK front was formed in 2019 based on ideology and won every election since then, the chief minister said. Attacking the AIADMK and BJP, Stalin said whether they come through the back door as separate parties or form a direct alliance, DMK cadres should make the people understand that they are dangerous to Tamil Nadu and the Tamils. He also took a dig at AIADMK general secretary Edappadi K Palaniswami’s claims that AIADMK vote share has increased. “In the 2019 Lok Sabha election, AIADMK contested 20 seats and secured 19.4% votes but in 2024, it contested in 34 seats and secured only 20.4% votes.” AIADMK has lost an average of 1.5 lakh votes in all constituencies, he said.
The only weapon in the hands of opposition parties is slander and importance given by the media to AIADMK, BJP and newly formed parties. So cadres should spread achievements of the DMK govt even in family Whatsapp groups to counter the slander, he said.
