New Delhi: The registration for Mukhyamantri Mahila Samman scheme, offering Rs 1,000 a month to women, and Sanjeevani Yojana, promising medical treatment for the elderly, will begin on Monday, AAP chief Arvind Kejriwal said.
The women’s scheme launched by AAP govt this month will provide monthly financial assistance of Rs 1,000 to the eligible beneficiaries, which will eventually increase to Rs 2,100. The money, however, will be given after the election.
Sanjeevani Yojana promises to provide free healthcare to citizens above the age of 60. “The middle class often feels neglected, especially after retirement when elderly family members struggle with medical expenses. This scheme will ensure they receive proper treatment. Registration for this initiative will also start tomorrow,” Kejriwal added.
To facilitate the process, AAP teams will conduct door-to-door registration drives for both schemes. Kejriwal said a Delhi voter ID was essential for eligibility. “You can visit the website to check if your voter ID is still valid. We are noticing that votes are being cancelled on a large scale by BJP,” he alleged. AAP has repeatedly claimed that votes were being deleted in areas that were AAP strongholds, a claim rejected by BJP.
BJP MP Ramvir Singh Bidhuri hit back, alleging: “If it is a govt scheme, then why will AAP workers do the registration? Even before the Lok Sabha election, there was cheating in the name of registration.”
Kejriwal, meanwhile, said that he, along with CM Atishi and senior functionary Manish Sisodia, would personally visit neighbourhoods to kick off the registration process. Addressing a press conference, Kejriwal said, “We know how hard our mothers and sisters work. They manage the household, working from as early as 4 in the morning till 10 or 11 at night. They nurture the children, who are the future of the country, instilling good values while raising them. Many of these mothers and sisters also go out to work jobs,” he said.
Certain categories of women are not eligible to avail of the monthly financial assistance. These include current or former permanent govt employees. Women who are or were MPs, MLAs, or councillors and who paid income tax in the previous assessment cycle are also not included.
Explaining the scheme’s broader impact, Kejriwal said, “There are many daughters whose college education is interrupted after Class XII due to financial constraints. With this Rs 2,100, they will be able to continue their studies.”
He added: “The second scheme we announced is ‘Sanjeevani Yojana’. Under this, all senior citizens above 60, rich or poor, will receive free treatment, whether in private or government hospitals. Delhi govt will bear all the expenses of their treatment.”
