Mumbai: In the wake of the recent boat capsizing incident, former BJP corporator Makarand Narwekar wrote a letter to the Maharashtra Maritime Board (MMB) to fast-track the transport marina proposal between Gateway of India and Radio Club. A marina is a harbour for small boats that are used for leisure.
“Establishing the marina will not only enhance safety but also help prevent future incidents of this nature,” the letter read, adding that Assembly Speaker and Colaba legislator Rahul Narwekar proposed the creation of the transport marina two years ago.
“This crash will be forgotten by govt agencies, and the probe will only remain on paper. But this tragedy is a blot on Mumbai’s tourist safety standard. Projects like the marina are needed as part of essential infrastructure. It will provide proper boarding and disembarking facilities, as well as fuelling stations for vessels. It would also ensure an efficient vessel and passenger handling system for tourists and others who frequently use this route,” said Narwekar.
