New Delhi: An 85-year-old self-styled godman has been accused of alleged sexual assault on a 50-year-old woman in North Delhi’s Timarpur. The woman alleged that the assault occurred after the godman threatened her with a sharp-edged weapon held to her neck.
The godman, 89-year-old Mahant Raja Ram Das, also filed a complaint accusing the woman and five others of conspiring to seize his property. Police were informed on Dec 13 about the alleged assault by Das, the head of Kabir Mandir on Lucknow Road, Timarpur. The incident is said to have occurred in April, and a case under the section of rape was registered.
In her complaint, the woman claims that she was a disciple of the accused, who runs an ashram in Timarpur. She alleged that Das assaulted her on the night of April 14-15 and threatened her with the sharp weapon when she objected. The woman also stated that she had been associated with a temple run by the ashram for nearly 20 years.
The investigation is in its early stages. The head priest was questioned, and he filed a counter-complaint against the woman and six others, accusing them of attempting to illegally take control of the ashram. Police said they were investigating the case from all angles.
