The day temperatures on Friday at IMD’s two weather stations in the city dropped below 30°C for the first time this season. While the Colaba observatory recorded 28.2°C (4.2° below normal), it was 29°C (3.8° below normal) at Santacruz. Experts said a stronger westerly breeze was responsible for the dip. The minimum temperature was 18.5°C (0.5° above normal) at Santacruz and 20.9°C at Colaba (0.1° below normal). IMD said the maximum and minimum temperatures on Saturday are likely to be 31°C and 19°C, respectively. The minimum temperatures have been fluctuating over the past several days, with Dec 9 marking this season’s lowest at 13.7°C. IMD said these changes were due to varying wind patterns. At 10.6°C, the city saw its coldest night on Dec 20, 1949. tnn
