Mumbai: A resident doctor from the orthopaedic department at KEM Hospital, Parel, allegedly slapped and punched a 55-year-old X-ray technician around 3 pm on Friday. He was suspended for three days, and a two-member committee will investigate the matter.
The altercation occurred due to incomplete paperwork by the doctor, claimed members of the employee union who held a protest. “A patient on a trolley was taken for an X-ray. The technician told the doctor that the papers didn’t have the unit head’s name,” said KEM Hospital’s academic dean, Dr Harish Pathak. “The doctor rectified this, but even then, the technician refused to perform the X-ray. Following this, the doctor said he would do the procedure himself, leading to the incident,” he added.
The technician, a stroke survivor, has poor speech and right-side disability, said staffers.
