New Delhi: “Seeing the confidence of these students, I am sure the future of India is in safe hands,” said Cambridge mayor Baiju Thittala on his visit to Dr BR Ambedkar School of Specialised Excellence in Andrews Ganj on Thursday. Delhi minister Saurabh Bharadwaj and former president of Cambridge University Students’ Union Warish Pratap were also present.
At the school, which specialises in visual and performing arts, the students’ music band welcomed the guests. Thittala explored the sculpture lab, music room and visual arts labs, engaging with students. He also saw an exhibition featuring fine art paintings in various Indian styles. In the music lab, students performed both western and classical Indian music. “The changes in Delhi’s govt schools are very positive. The facilities and the innovative ways in which teachers are teaching are highly commendable,” said Thittala, originally from Kerala’s Kottayam.
Bharadwaj informed him about the various curricula being taught at ASOSE. “No one ever imagined that there would be schools where children’s talents are nurtured to decide they will become artists. Delhi govt has made this dream come true,” he said.
Delhi BJP spokesperson Praveen Shankar Kapoor, however, said, “The mayor of Cambridge neither issued any statement nor posted on social media praising Delhi govt. Delhi residents expect that Bharadwaj informed Thittala that 75% of Delhi govt schools lack facilities for teaching science and commerce to underprivileged children.”TNN
