Mumbai: Two days after registering a molestation case, the Colaba police on Friday arrested a 22-year-old tailor for allegedly molesting a 58-year-old foreign national woman. The accused followed her to her friend’s house, where she was staying, and even locked the door from outside.
A senior police officer said they apprehended the accused, Noren Mohammed Khalid, a Govandi resident. He is originally from UP and has been staying in Mumbai for the last four months.
The source said that a case of molestation and outraging the modesty of a woman was registered at Colaba police station against an unknown accused. On Wednesday, at around 3.30 pm, the accused followed the victim to the place she was staying and committed an obscene act. The woman closed the door. The accused followed and locked the door from outside. She was temporarily staying with her friend at Colaba, where the incident happened. The police source said that the victim declined to register a case. Hence, the complaint of the victim’s friend’s son was taken.
“It’s established clearly that he committed the crime,” said an officer. Police also studied the CCTV footage and nabbed the accused. Investigators are also checking if he targeted other women, including foreign tourists, similarly, in the past.
