Rape-murder convict’s 4-year run comes to end

New Delhi: A four-year run of a rape and murder accused came to an end when he was arrested in Siwan, Bihar recently. Bharat Singh, a resident of Bihar, raped and killed a three-year-old girl in southwest Delhi’s Kapashera.
According to police, a man filed a complaint on April 10, 2011 that his daughter was kidnapped, and a case was registered. The man told the cops that she had been missing since the evening of April 9 and he thought that she might have gone to her grandparents’ room, but she was not found there. During the search, police recovered her body near a farmhouse; she was raped and murdered.
During the investigation, police arrested Singh, who was working as a guard. He was convicted, but was released on emergency parole during Covid-19. However, he didn’t return to jail once the parole got over after the pandemic.
Deputy commissioner of police (southwest) Surender Choudhary formed a team to continuously monitor the people who were absconding for extended periods. “Our team received information about the accused’s movements in Bihar. They went to Siwan and conducted a door-to-door search, interrogating his relatives, but they claimed they had no contact with him,” police said.
While analysing call details of his relatives, police found a few unknown phone numbers. Upon scanning the numbers, they traced one of the phone numbers in Siwan. The team went to the location and found Singh, who was plying an auto, and apprehended him. TNN
