NAGPUR: While it was a foregone conclusion that BJP MLC Ram Shinde would be elected unopposed as the new Legislative Council chairman, the formality of completing the process was done on Wednesday morning.
CM Devendra Fadnavis, while speaking in the house, said, “This is the 300th birth anniversary of Ahilyadevi, and Ram Shinde is from the 9th generation of Ahilyadevi‘s father’s family. So, in a way, we have paid the perfect tribute to her.”
The post was vacant since 2022 when the term of the previous chairman expired.
Since then, deputy chairperson Neelam Gorhe was heading the proceedings in the upper house.
During the handing over formality, Gorhe said, “I wish Ram Shinde all the best. As for myself, I will continue to work for society.”
