Chennai: Police arrested one of two burglars who broke into seven shops on Thiruverkadu Main Road, Ayappakkam, on Friday. A hunt is on to apprehend the second suspect.
Police said, Parthasarathy, 58, runs a restaurant on Thiruverkadu Main Road, Ayapakkam. On Dec 12, he approached the T10 Thirumullaivoyal Police Station and lodged a complaint. He said that he locked his hotel as usual at 10.45pm on Dec 11.
When he returned to open the shop at 7am the next day, he found the lock broken and 29,000 missing from the cash box. A case was registered under sections 334(1), 305(a) BNS. During the investigation, it was discovered that locks of six other shops were also broken on the same day.
Fingerprint experts were called to examine the prints found at the crime scene, and CCTV footage was reviewed. It was identified that the individuals involved in the burglary were Sivakumar from Kolathur and Chaitanya from Villivakkam.
Based on inputs from an informant, Chaitanya, who was hiding in the Ayapakkam area, was arrested, while a special team is searching for the other suspect, Sivakumar from Kolathur.
