Kalyan: Three more persons were arrested on Saturday in connection with the assault on a Marathi family from Kalyan. The total number of poeple held in this case has touched six. Those arrested include the main accused, Geeta Shukla, Parth Jadhav, and Vivek Jadhav. All the six accused were produced in a sessions court in Kalyan amid security. They have been sent to police custody for six days.
In court, a drama unfolded as some Marathi and non-Marathi lawyers said they would not take up Shukla’s case. During the hearing, public prosecutor A P Adaskar sought 10 days of police custody for Shukla and the other accused, claiming that the police still needed to find the weapon used to attack Dheeraj Deshmukh’s brother, Abhijit, who suffered serious head injuries.
Unhappy with the action of the Shuklas in an attack on a neighbour by calling people from outside, residents of Ajmera Building said they would cancel Shukla’s membership from the housing society’s committee. The committee members will seek legal opinion on Shukla’s removal from the building.
