MUMBAI: Two party workers of the RPI (Athawale) group were arrested by Charkop police after damaging a BEST bus during a protest in Kandivali on Monday.
An FIR was registered against the duo based on a statement given by the bus driver, Santosh Kamble, 51. Kamble stated that he was steering bus no. 276 from Charkop’s Sector 8 to Kandivali railway station around 11.55 am.
The bus had halted at a traffic signal near Charkop market, where RPI (Athawale) party workers were protesting. Police bandobast had also been deployed at the site.
Suddenly, two men approached the bus. One of them damaged the front glass, while the other pelted stones at the cleaner’s side glass, causing further damage. Kamble reported that the damages incurred by BEST amounted to Rs 22,000.
Policemen on bandobast duty quickly intervened and apprehended the duo. They were identified as Nitin Mahangade and Satish Jinjotre, according to the police.
